A widespread service outage of Apple's iMessage was reported across the globe on Thursday, with thousands of users experiencing issues sending messages. The number of outage reports surged, reaching over 10,000. As of just after 6 p.m. Eastern time, there were 13,642 outage reports, with 75% of them related to message sending problems. Apple's system status page confirmed the outage but reassured users that the issue was resolved shortly after 7 p.m. Eastern time. During the outage, users flooded social media platforms like X, where iMessage became the top trending topic. Apart from iMessage, texting outages on major carriers Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile were also reported. Traditionally, Apple addresses iMessage outages quickly, with previous incidents being resolved within 30 minutes. In 2022, a similar outage affected thousands of users but was swiftly fixed by Apple. In February, a nationwide cellular network outage impacted several carriers, leading to network restoration efforts by AT&T after 7 hours. While T-Mobile and Verizon claimed that their networks were functioning normally, some customers experienced issues when communicating with users on other networks. Apple has not yet responded to inquiries about the recent iMessage outage.
