Microsoft Introduces Auto SR to Compete with Nvidia DLSS on Copilot+ PCs
-advertisment-

Microsoft is stepping up its game by introducing a new feature called Auto SR on Copilot+ PCs to rival Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). This AI-assisted upscaling tool is exclusive to Copilot+ PCs for now, but there are hints that it may be more widely available in the future. Auto SR is similar to DLSS and provides an AI-based super resolution solution directly integrated into the operating system. This seamlessly enhances existing games without any input required from players or developers. The feature is currently available in a curated set of games, indicating that per-game integration may be necessary. Despite the exclusivity, Microsoft is likely planning to expand Auto SR to more devices. At launch, it will be exclusive to Copilot+ PCs equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, but broader support is expected in the future. With NPUs becoming more common in both laptops and desktops, Microsoft's decision to utilize this technology for Auto SR could lead to wider adoption. Although the feature was previously spotted in preview builds of Windows 11, there is no set timeline for when it will be more widely available. Given Microsoft's track record of incorporating new features through Windows updates, it is reasonable to expect Auto SR to become more accessible over time.
