Gujarat Health Officials Review Chandipura Virus Cases

The Union health ministry , along with experts from AIIMS , reviewed the Chandipura virus cases in Gujarat , Rajasthan , and Madhya Pradesh . Since June 2024 , there have been 78 AES cases reported in children under 15 years of age across the three states , with Gujarat having the highest number of cases and deaths.

Of the 76 samples tested at NIV Pune , nine were confirmed positive for Chandipura virus , all from Gujarat . The outbreak has resulted in 28 deaths , with 5 confirmed to be linked to CHPV.
Infectious agents contribute to only a small proportion of AES cases , emphasizing the need for comprehensive studies to understand the cases in Gujarat .

The Medical bulletin confirmed positive CHPV cases in various districts , with Vadodara reporting the first case in a deceased six - year - old boy from Savli . Health teams have started a drive in Manipura village after the confirmation.

SSG Hospital reported 11 suspected CHPV cases , with samples sent for testing . Deaths of children due to suspected CHPV have been reported , and samples have been sent to NIV Pune for further analysis.
The hospital has seen a total of 12 admissions with suspected CHPV cases.

State Health Minister 's Visit to Sabarkantha

State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel visited GMERS Hospital in Himmatnagar , Sabarkantha , to meet suspected CHPV patients . Fourteen suspected cases have been recorded in the district , with two cases from Rajasthan . Six deaths from suspected CHPV have been reported in Sabarkantha.

District health teams have completed malathion dusting in homes and surveillance of people . Patel directed authorities to continue prevention activities in rural areas and provide immediate medical attention to cases with CHPV symptoms.

Chandipura virus outbreaks pose a threat during the monsoon season in western , central , and southern India . Preventive measures include vector control , hygiene , and public awareness . The health ministry emphasizes timely referral and symptomatic management for better patient outcomes.
