Collaboration for National HIV Testing Day

The collaboration between Exit Disclaimer and Exit Disclaimer is the largest National HIV Testing Day event in the nation. The event will take place in more than 550 Walgreens stores on June 27, offering free rapid HIV testing. Additionally, partners will also provide free rapid syphilis and/or hepatitis C testing to address the rising rates of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in many locations.

Connecting Communities with Testing Services

The public-private partnership aims to bring free rapid HIV and STD testing directly to communities in a familiar setting. The initiative connects individuals to trusted local prevention and treatment service providers in their area. Testing will be provided by local partners in a private area of the store or mobile unit, with results available in 20 minutes or less. Counselors will be available to answer questions about HIV and STDs and provide information on prevention and treatment options, including referrals for PrEP.

The program is crucial in reaching people in community settings and making HIV prevention and treatment options more accessible and convenient. Walgreens has been providing services to help prevent and treat HIV for over 40 years. The pharmacy team members are trained to address the specific challenges faced by people living with HIV, including confidential medication counseling and information on prevention options.

Support from Test Manufacturers

Major HIV rapid test manufacturers such as Abbott Laboratories, BioLytical Laboratories, ChemBio Diagnostics, and OraSure Technologies have donated tests to support this year's effort. In addition, ChemBio Diagnostics and Diagnostics Direct have donated rapid syphilis tests. Since 2011, KFF's Exit Disclaimer has provided over 82,000 free HIV tests through the in-store NHTD program, including distributing over 15,000 self-tests during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year marks the 14th year of the partnership with the highest level of participation in the program's history.
