When author and director Michael Crichton passed away in 2008, his widow Sherri was pregnant with their son John Michael. Sherri is determined to ensure that John Michael is aware of his father's work, including the upcoming book Eruption, co-written by James Patterson, set to release on June 3. The novel is based on a volcanic event on Hawaii's Big Island, featuring a tale of impending disaster.

It took Sherri 15 years to find the right collaborator for Eruption, which Michael Crichton left unfinished. James Patterson was chosen for his expertise in thrillers and reputation for justice. The book is a tribute to Crichton's legacy, starting with a manuscript begun in 1994 and completed posthumously.

Sherri is dedicated to preserving Michael's memory for their son, John Michael Jr., who expresses interest in following his father's footsteps. Through her efforts, the younger Crichton understands the significance of his father's work and the impact it continues to have on popular culture.
