Kyoto University and Sumitomo Forestry made headlines by revealing LignoSat, the first-ever wooden satellite in the world. The innovative project is set to launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and will eventually find its way to the International Space Station. The unique satellite, developed starting in April 2020, is made from magnolia wood for its durability and versatility in space environments. The choice of wood was finalized after extensive space exposure tests were conducted on various types of wood chips, including cherry and birch.
