Rising Trend of STIs: Implications for Global Health

Global HIV and viral hepatitis epidemics as well as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain significant public health challenges, causing 2.5 million deaths annually, according to a recent WHO report. The report highlights a major increase in STIs in various regions, with a rise in adult syphilis cases by over 1 million in 2022, reaching 8 million. The challenges in reducing new HIV and viral hepatitis infections also pose threats to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The report emphasizes the urgency of addressing the rising incidence of syphilis.
