There are many reasons why Noah Kahan is so popular and successful , at least according to his fans who were eagerly waiting to attend night one of his two - night stint in Massachusetts this week . The Vermont native is back in New England for two sold - out shows at Fenway Park in Boston on Thursday , July 18 and Friday , July 19 . Before Kahans Thursday night show , MassLive spoke with fans outside the ball park about their love for the singer , who some described as a refreshing name in pop music . " I feel like we ve been in a drought , " said Mary Gerace . " We needed somebody new even though he s been making music for a long time . But [ he s ] really popping off right now and of course the New England love is even better . " Kahan first achieved stardom with his breakthrough single Hurt Somebody in 2017.
Noah Kahan may sing " I 'm mean because I grew up in New England , " but he has nothing but kind words for Boston 's legendary Fenway Park , which he 's set to play this week . Kahan went on " Late Night with Seth Meyers " after playing two sold - out shows at Madison Square Garden as part of the We 'll All Be Here Forever tour . On Thursday and Friday , he 'll play two more packed performances at Fenway . Meyers , who grew up in New Hampshire , shared that he was " incredibly jealous " of Kahan 's upcoming Fenway tour dates , which James Bay and Mt. Joy are supporting . " I mean , Madison Square Garden is all well and good , but as a fellow New Englander , you 're playing Fenway Park , " Meyers said . " That 's a cathedral , man".
Sherry Deng , who described herself as the biggest Kahan fan , said her love for the artist comes from his songwriting . " I think just knowing that he s kind of close to home and being able to write about a place like this can be really hard , but he writes about it in such a beautiful way that makes it feel like such a beautiful place , " Deng said . Other fans say they find solace in Kahans authentically hilarious demeanor that s often captured in his social media posts or in interviews . " I think he s absolutely hysterical but also the fact that he s so funny and then sings the music he sings is wild because you d never expect that to be the same person , " said Ackerman . He s very unfiltered and raw in himself , said Gerace.
The album debuted at No . 14 on the Billboard 200 and was Kahans first appearance on the chart . The success of Stick Season was supported through its titular track , which peaked at No . 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 , as well as several other singles like Dial Drunk with Post Malone and Northern Attitude with Hozier . Kahan said he 's ready for a more " triumphant " performance than his last appearance at Fenway this week . " I think I 'm going to wear Red Sox - themed overalls , " Kahan said , touting them as a " good fit " for his folk pop style . Still , the New England native could n't resist a dig at one of its states : The overalls are " going to have all the area codes of all the New England [ states ] , and I 'm even going to include Connecticut in that . "
