The Fourth of July is a time for celebration , and Oahu is no exception . From early in the morning until late at night , there are events happening all over the island to commemorate Independence Day . If you 're an early riser , you can start your day with the A Salute to Our Veterans Hilo Bay 5 K Run / Walk at 7 a.m. in Hilo . The Hot Rides Expo at the Hilo Bayfront Soccer fields will feature vintage , classic , and futuristic vehicles , along with live music , food trucks , and children 's activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On the west side of the island , the Kailua - Kona Community Parade Association and Fireworks Committee are teaming up with Hawaii County to present the Fourth of July parade along Kuakini Highway and Alii Drive , starting at 6 p.m. Following the parade , the Independence Day Extravaganza professional fireworks exhibition will be launched from Kailua Bay at 8 p.m.
For those interested in setting off their own fireworks on Hawaii Island , permits are available for purchase . Each 5 permit allows the holder to buy up to 5,000 individual firecrackers and can be picked up at designated locations until 8 p.m. on July 4.
While there may not be a fireworks show at Ala Moana Beach Park this year , the Ala Moana Center is hosting a two - day concert series featuring a star - studded lineup including Common Kings , Anuhea , Kapena , and more . The concerts will take place on Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Makai deck.
The Center offered 10,000 free general admission tickets for the event , which have already sold out . However , upgraded tickets are still available for purchase at 0 . In addition to the concerts , Ala Moana Center is offering special deals for shoppers and diners at select merchants throughout the event.
On Kauai , the 4th of July Concert in the Sky at the Vidinha Soccer Field will feature live music , crafts , and a keiki kid zone from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. , with a fireworks show to follow . The event is a fundraiser for Kauai Hospice and is celebrating its 32nd year . Tickets for the fundraiser event can be purchased online.
