Insights on the Growth of Postal Workers on National Postal Worker Day 2024

On July 1, 2024, Postal workers all around the world celebrated National Postal Worker Day. The postmen, who were once just known for delivering mails, have now expanded their services to deliver important documents as well. The concept of National Postal Worker Day originated in the USA in 1997, honoring the hard work of postal workers.

Krishna Kumar Yadav, the postmaster general of the Varanasi and Prayagraj region, highlighted the pivotal role of postal workers in bridging the gap between the government and the common people by providing various essential services. In the Varanasi region alone, more than two thousand postmen are delivering an average of 8.5 lakh speed post & registered letters and 15 lakh ordinary letters every month.

The duties of postal workers have evolved over the years, with them delivering crucial items such as Aadhaar, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, and more directly to people's doorsteps. They even deliver prasad from temples, medicines, and Rakhi on Raksha Bandhan festival. Additionally, postmen are now functioning as mobile ATMs in rural areas, providing services like DBT, Jan Suraksha schemes, Aadhaar enrollment, and more.

As the United States celebrated National Postal Workers Day, Daniel Cortez of the American Postal Workers Union emphasized the critical role postal workers play, especially during significant events like the 2024 elections. He highlighted the importance of postal workers in delivering essential items like election mail, letters, care packages, prescriptions, and more.

In Minneapolis, Parks Department staff have been engaged in a labor dispute, seeking better pay and safer working conditions. As families prepare to celebrate the July 4 holiday in municipal parks, park keepers are hoping their demands for fair treatment and support are met.
