Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, both known for their work on the hit series Succession, have officially joined forces for a new project - a television series based on the beloved Harry Potter books. Gardiner will be taking on the role of showrunner and executive producer, while Mylod will be directing multiple episodes and serving as an executive producer as well.

The announcement was made by HBO and Warner Bros. TV, the powerhouses behind the upcoming untitled Harry Potter series. Gardiner and Mylod are no strangers to the HBO family, with Gardiner also having worked on His Dark Materials and Mylod having directorial experience on Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and Entourage, in addition to his Emmy-winning work on Succession.

The selection of Gardiner and Mylod came after a thorough search by HBO and Warner Bros. to assemble the right creative team for the Harry Potter project. Warner Bros. TV chairman Channing Dungey mentioned that they had been in talks with various writers to find the perfect individual to lead the franchise.

According to the plan, the new Harry Potter series is set to be released over the course of a decade, with each season dedicated to one of the books in the series. The first season is expected to premiere in 2026, as confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav earlier this year.

The series will feature a new cast to bring the magical world of Harry Potter to a new generation of fans, while still staying true to the essence of J.K. Rowling's beloved books. In addition to Gardiner and Mylod, other executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bront Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films. The series is poised to offer fans a fresh perspective on the Wizarding World, while the original films will continue to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences worldwide.
