Atlas Ocean Voyages has taken its Cultural Expeditions Atlas Focus Lab program to the next level by introducing new Stargazing and Astronomy Workshops on select expeditions in 2024 and 2025. The highlight of this program is the announcement of two total solar eclipse sailings scheduled for August 12, 2026. The World Navigator will be stationed near Patreksfjordur, Iceland, while the World Traveller will be stationed in the Mediterranean near Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Exploring the Universe with Experts

Guests aboard these expeditions will have the unique opportunity to delve into the mysteries of the cosmos with fellow explorers while observing the galaxy through advanced telescopes on deck. Talks and lectures during the Stargazing and Astronomy Workshop will cover a wide range of topics, from the birth of the universe to the latest astronomical discoveries. Renowned astronomers Jonathan H. Ward and Charles Barclay will lead these workshops, providing their expertise and insights about the universe.

Atlas Ocean Voyages President and CEO, James Rodriguez, emphasized the historical connection between stargazing and the sea, highlighting the tradition of captains using the stars for navigation and passengers marveling at the night sky on deck. Rodriguez expressed excitement about welcoming Ward and Barclay onboard as expedition guides, enhancing the overall experience for guests.

Witnessing the Solar Eclipse

The upcoming solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, has sparked significant interest among travelers, with Atlas Ocean Voyages offering two voyages to prime locations for optimal viewing. The World Navigator will provide guests with a front-row seat to the eclipse from Patreksfjordur, Iceland, while the World Traveller will sail through the Mediterranean, offering a unique vantage point between Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and Banyuls Sur Mer, France.
