IKEA is set to pay people 13.15 / 14.80 per hour to work in a new virtual store inside Roblox. The Co-Worker Game, as it's known, will allow players to experience working in IKEA's virtual universe and get paid for it. Applications are open until June 16, with the game launching on June 24. This initiative marks IKEA's first venture into mainstream gaming, offering a unique opportunity for players to explore careers within the company and earn money while doing so.Successful applicants will have the chance to work in various departments of the virtual store, assisting customers, moving between sections like the Showroom and Bistro, helping with furniture selection, and even serving meatballs. IKEA's Country People and Culture Manager, Darren Taylor, highlighted the company's commitment to providing non-linear career paths and opportunities for growth within the game and in real life. The paid roles are open to individuals aged 18 and above in the UK or Republic of Ireland, with an hourly rate of 13.15 (approx $16.78) matching the London Living Wage standards.Virtual interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place between June 14 and June 18, with successful applicants receiving the hourly IKEA Co-Worker rate for their time in the game. The initiative aims to showcase IKEA's innovative approach to careers and provide a unique experience for players on the Roblox platform, which boasts an impressive 77.7 million daily active users. While Roblox has faced criticism regarding its impact on child developers, the company continues to offer engaging virtual experiences for users of all ages.
